Whether it’s the splash of color on a canvas or the feel of clay under your fingers, art invites us to experience something beyond the everyday. And if you’re anything like me, you’re always on the lookout for new ways to dive into creativity and connect with others who share that same heartbeat.
Lucky for us, the Twin Cities is buzzing with opportunities to do just that. From interactive workshops to vibrant gallery openings, there’s a whole world of engaging art events waiting just around the corner. And the amount of raw, untapped talent in this city? Absolutely wild.
Discovering Engaging Art Events in the Twin Cities
When I first started exploring the local art scene, I was blown away by how much was happening right here in our backyard. The Twin Cities has cultivated a rich and diverse creative community—one that deserves even more light. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just curious, there’s something for everyone.
But here’s the thing: I don’t think it’s happening enough. Especially in the winter, when creative energy feels like it’s hibernating.
As the owner of Studio 42 Mpls, and as an artist, creative, and entrepreneur myself, I feel it’s partly my responsibility to do something about that rather than just talk about it. Minneapolis has one of the top art scenes in the country, but there are still gaps that need bridging.
That’s why I’m curating Everyone’s an Artist on November 11 this year — and why I plan to keep curating consistent events that move people and bring the community together.
What You'll Find at Studio 42 Mpls
At Studio 42 Mpls, we design art experiences that are immersive, interactive, and real. Imagine stepping into a space where you’re not just a spectator but a participant — painting alongside others, learning new techniques, or helping create a community mural.
It’s art in motion. It’s connection through creativity.
Here are a few types of engaging art events you might find:
Live painting sessions — watch artists create in real-time and chat with them about their process.
Hands-on workshops — learn everything from watercolor basics to advanced sculpture.
Pop-up galleries — experience local artists, new themes, and raw expression.
Artist talks and panels — get to know the minds behind the masterpieces.
Collaborative projects — contribute to larger works that bring people together.

What is the 80/20 Rule in Art?
A question I get a lot is: “How do you balance your time and energy?”
Honestly? Sometimes I don’t. But I’m a big believer in doing the things that fill your cup — the work that reminds you why you create in the first place.
If you’re turning your passion into a business, it’s easy to lose that spark. You start taking commissions, life gets busy, and before you know it, you haven’t made something for yourself in months.
That’s where the 80/20 Rule comes in.Spend 80% of your time creating art for others — building your business, fulfilling commissions, collaborating. But dedicate 20% purely to your own vision. The kind of art that’s just for you.
Start a small side project, something low-pressure and joy-filled. It’ll refill your creative tank and keep your artistry grounded in passion rather than obligation.
Because even for those lucky enough to have full creative control, there’s always give and take in a professional art career. The 80/20 Rule just helps you stay close to your “why.”
At Studio 42 Mpls, we often bring this mindset into our events — weaving in conversations about the business of art and the heart behind it. We’re still a young company, but we’re determined to bring new life to the creative scene in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
How to Make the Most of Your Visit to Art Events
Walking into an art event can feel a little intimidating if it’s not something you do often. Don’t worry — I’ve got you:
Come with an open mind. Art is subjective; embrace what challenges your usual tastes.
Ask questions. Artists love sharing their stories and process. Strike up conversations.
Participate actively. If there’s a workshop or interactive piece — jump in.
Take notes or photos. Capture inspiration, but always ask before snapping pictures.
Support local artists. Share their work, buy a print, or simply ask how you can help.
Follow these simple steps, and you’ll walk away from every event more inspired and connected.

Why Community Matters in Art
One of the most powerful parts of attending art events is the community. Art isn’t just about expression — it’s about connection. When artists and audiences come together, something special happens.
Ideas spark.Collaborations form.Appreciation deepens.
Places like Studio 42 Mpls are more than venues — they’re hubs where creativity meets community, and great art sparks great conversations. We aim to make everyone feel welcome, whether you’re showcasing your work or simply soaking in the atmosphere.
When you show up to an event, you’re not just watching art happen — you’re part of it.
