The Blue Tiger
-In contrast to much of my work, this painting is vibrant, more intensely colored, and a bit louder. Also, this painting is partially invented. I set up the still life and worked from this set up to create the painting; nevertheless, I erred from the truth of the patterning throughout the background and foreground of the set-up. In so doing I was able to play with the imagery and create a story of my own invention. Part way through the process I became fixated on the idea of sort of hiding a tiger in the patters of the background, despite the fact that initially there was nothing to do with tigers in the concept of the work. That said, the tiger ended up being, although not the most stand-out visual element of the composition, the idea underpinning the composition that allowed it to be more than just a still life. I also played a bit with the patterning and edge work to create a bit of tension between the 2D and 3D element of the composition. This adds a bit of visual interest to the painting. Have you found the blue tiger?
